Default I just had a key made for my Ninja 650r

My bike is 07 ninja 650r and i lost my keys, so i took my key code to my local locksmith and he made me a set of keys. The problem is they do not work. To me it seems like the blank he used is too short. I took them back and he said that was the blank it called for, and he showed me on his computer that it was the blank.

I don't know much about the locksmithing business, so i'll just say. the key he gave me was made on an ilco blank #KA14. Can anyone say for sure that this is the right blank? Or give me some other key balnk alternatives?

Thanks

Bobby

Welcome Bobby. I don't know about the key blank, but I would take the key code to the Kawasaki dealer and get it either done there or order the blank. I know my ZRX has a long key, but my ZX11, which has a new key (Done before I bought the bike) that is shorter. It works fine so maybe the ZX key was shorter in the first place. But I would get the key from the dealer.

Thanks man. I'll go down to the dealer and see if they can get me a blank. When I first went to them to find out what to do about the missing key, they told me to take the keycode to a locksmith, and have one made. They didnt offer me a blank....but i will go back down and find out.

Thanks again man

Take the key that the locksmith made for you and see if they can match it up to one from another bike to see if they are close. Not sure why they wouldnt get a blank for you though.

Guys, along the same line, i just picked up a 2006 klx 250s. Bank Repo, no key code. Apparently the person who repod it had to have a key made to fit. Is there a way to recover the key code or can i just take the existing key to have a dup made as a spare backup?

Usually, the key code is on the ignition shaft. Also, if so equiped, the helmet lock will have it too.

To register a key for the 10r for example, it requires a Key Registration Unit special tool. Not sure on your application though. Good luck
