Two completely different bikes. The 9 is a heavy sporty tourer, the 6 is a little revving screamer. The 9 is pretty bullet proof, but the 6 will out handle it and be easier on tires from a weight standpoint. What kind of a bike do you want? What kind of riding do you do? What's your budget? I agree with the other posters; you may just want to save your money and get something newer, unless you just like older technology and have plenty of tools.

I was not the biggest fan of the '91 model years bore/stroke. As mentioned above, how do you plan on setting her up and riding?

I think that they are both good rides depending on what you expect and tweak the ride to do to meet your expectations. An '84 9 is going to be heavier but pretty stable. Good for those 1 week stints of cruizing

Weight, tire life, down on horsepower by today's measure (power to weight), it won't be a good track bike. No REAL mechanical issues. When they first came out, the tranny got some bad press due to hitting false neutrals in lower gears. I haven't experienced this; my '95 seems to shift just fine. (again, if you want a track bike or a drag bike, there are other much better options!) I run Mobil-1 in mine and have never had a clutch/tranny problem. (No; I'm NOT trying to restart an oil thread!!)
On the plus side, they're reliable as hell, excellent on longer rides (i.e. hours), pretty comfortable, still "sporty," and will put a smile on your face above 9-10K rpm. Just don't think you'll be competitive with Busa'son the straights, ornewer 600's in the twisties.

Whoa, I just noticed; did you mean '84 or '94? Gadz, go with the newest technology you can afford!

Gonna go and try the '91 ZX-6 but am reluctant due to the age and high RPMs this thing demands. I've burnt many bikes before this one. Anything to look for and can I expect to have to do regular work on it. Also it seems like this guy has not had many offers since he's brought his price from 2700 to 1400.
