I just discovered the new 300 weighs approximately 50 lbs more. Simply, why?

 

Which 300, there are 2. From what I've read the two off road KLX300R models are near identical around 350 lb claimed, in spite of the new R having electric start and EFI adding weight. Now the KLX300 dual sport model is around 50 lb more, but then again it has all the street legal crap. There was no street legal 300 in 2001 and no 250 either.

 

Thank you KLX678, that explains it. When I found what the 2001 version weighed, and looking at the image of it, I expected it was also a street legal bike. So that's the difference, just as it is now with the new models. Dirts bikes weigh 50lbs less, period.
