it might have a bad stator that charges that battery.

The '90 was the h2 from my understanding. Since I have one.

have fitted a new battery(old one was dry) but it runs itself down on only short runs
The new battery or the old one?

double check the belt to the alternator if the battery does not help.

Sounds like the stator, or regulator.

The factory manual does not list the engine wt by itself. But, the entire bikes claimed dry wt was listed as 195.5kg. The wt bias is 111.5kg front
