I'd love to paint my bike. The problem is that I have no artistic ability what so ever. If anyone knows of a talented bike painter in the southern part of Virginia, please drop me a note.

I would love to do that however I don't have the room or the time right now to do that. That article was great and like you said had some really good detail in it. Let us know if you paint it yourself or not and how it turns out. Good Luck

I have painted my own in the past. Nothing special, just one color schemes for the track. Once you have the equipment and the space, it is not bad.

I hired the job out to the local Ford dealer, They have a great body man. I got to see it today and it is SAWEET!!!!!
At 1st it didn't look so hot, just looked like someone shot blue stripes over black paint. I told him to make the candy blue darker and add a pearl to it, Wow, what a differencethat made! The blue is really dark, but shows up great in the sunlight. The pearl gave it some depth so it doesn't look plain anymore. I can't wait to get it together. He still has to buff it out so it will have even more shine to it, it has 3 clear coats so its pretty damn shinny anyway, if it shines more it will look like glass. I'll post some pics next week when I get it togther. I have a blue chrome DB windscreen on the way, War Eagle is the only company I found that still makes them in blue chrome for the 9r, I'm not sure it will look good because there is so much black in the paint, I might have to buy a smoked screen instead. I'll let you guys know if I'm gonna sell the Blue windscreen or not.
Man I am just tickled to death over how good the paint turned out.

Painting itself is not that big of deal. Unless your a picky *** like myself. Mixing all of the paint/clear is where you can mess things up real quick. I had a Radar Blue paint job turn into a light royle purple cause someone got carried away with the red pearl. I am not sure if you can go buy ready to shot paint from a supplier, I have always got all of the reducers, activaters, ext.... from the supplier that comes to the bodyshop my Pop works at.

Prep-work is key!!!! Do not slack in this area. Hopefully mine will go under the gun over the summer. We will see.

I posted some pics of the new paint, the tail section and lower fairing are basic black, no pearl or flake in them (the tail is getting repainted at the moment, had dirt in it) The rest is feathered black and candy pearl dark blue. I posted a pic of an R-1 with a smilar paint scheme to give you an idea, the paint won't show up well in the pics. The funny thing is the bike seems to change from black to blue right in front of your eyes. Its pretty wicked looking.

Where did the 3rd pic come from? I did not care for the exhaust, but the scheme was pretty cool.
