How to clean my rusting tailpipes
Hi
My '81 KZ 750 LTD has rust on the tailpipes (which are in very good shape considering their age)
Any suggestions?
Sandpaper?
Steel wool?
Polish?
Paint?

Ugh. If your chrome is flaking or rusting-off, there's really no good way to dress up a bad situation. You can use any of the abrasives you mentioned for the short term. However, if you plan to keep the bike, just take the plunge and get the pipes re-chromed. It won't be cheap, but shinybikes always turn heads. (Just take care of them after you re-chrome them!)

About the only thing I could recommend for really rusty pipes would be polishing compound. If you can't get them looking good after using polish, you better buy new or used (but in good shape) pipes.
