81 kz750ltd blinkers not working
hello, i have a 1981 kz750ltd and the blinkers don't work. it has hazards and they work fine, but no blinkers by themselves on automatic or manual. any help would be greatly appreciated. bike sat in my garage for 5 years and blinkers used to work just fine. not now. thanks in advance for any suggestions. thought i had a chilton's manual for it but i can't seem to find it now.

I'll ask the obvious first, did you check your turn signal fuse? It may use adifferent fuse than the hazard flasher. (The hazard is an add-on for your bike right?) If not, I would just start tracing the wires with a test light until I figure out what is causing the problem.

finally found the problem with the blinkers today. took the flasher out and looked a little corroded on the back. rapped on it a bit and hooked it back up and now it works. however just the other day the tach was fine, but now it is really sluggish. the engine revs like it should but the tach takes about 5 to 10 seconds to climb all the way up or drop all the way back down to idle. any ideas? tach cable maybe? thanks for any advice. also the hazard flashers was an original as far as i can tell. switch goes from manual blinker to automatic blinker to hazards. thanks.

hmmm..... the tach is mechanical, so I would think the cable could be slipping maybe. Unscrew the cable and check out the center drive wire for any obvious problems.

cable looked fine. tried to disassemble the gauge, but looks like a sealed unit with the ring holding the whole gauge together. lubed sleeve where cable goes into gauge and seems to work a little better. lubed it a little more and i think it will get better as it is used more and more. thanks for your assistance, i appreciate it.

I'll "cut and paste" the pages from the original Service Manual that deal
with this system and send it to you
(I tried to "cut and paste" to this posting but couldn't do it - no computer smarts, I'm afraid)
