i have a 77 k750 and i don't think the batt is charging when running. i bought the bike and put a new wheel bearing in it put the carbs back on and ran it ond when i rev'd it the lights would get brighter so it was charging. i drove it down the road quickly and puled back into my driveway and the throttle stuck so i pulled the clutch and tapped the front brake (bad idea) and layed th bike down but i wasn't going very fast like only 5-7km/h. and the other day after fixing some minor things on it to get it ready for a safety i notice the lights weren't getting brighter when i rev'd it so i donno if it's charging anymore. any help.

 

The easiest way to see if it's charging is to put a volt meter on the two battery posts. At idle, you should see at least 13.5 volts or better. (13.5V is still sort of low for charging even at idle, but it's acceptable.) Anything above idle should read close to 14.5 volts.Another thing is that if the bike has been sitting for a while, your battery is most likely discharged from not being used. If this is the case, the alternator is working at full field to recharge the battery and run the bike's electrical components. I would recommend putting a trickle charger on the battery for a few hours to get the charge all the way up. Then, test the alternator.

 

ok thanx i did try and put the volt meter to it it to check it but the battery was low and when running the volts was only going upin incriments of.01 volt. (ie. 11.51-11.52-11.53-11.54) after running for a15-20 seconds.
