Default 1986 GPZ 900 Carb Problem

The bike will not start after a few minutes of starting. After several hours of tinkering with the choke and fuel the bike started and ran great that day. 12 hours later it starts all over again. Does anyone have a clue what might be the problem.

wow, "several hours of tinkering with the choke and fuel" I would have just totally soaked the carbs and checked the floats on re-install. While the carbs were soaking, that would have given you time to check all of the rubber boots for cracks. You could spray ether around the boots on start up to see if there are any leaks as well. let us know and good luck

Welcome to KF.

I soaked and cleaned the carbs. Still has the starting issue once the bike is cold. Runs great once you get it started though.

ok, so that leaves it back to the basics again. The slow speed circuit is still gummed up or the choke is not adjusted most likely if you know for sure that all rubber connections are tight and clean after your carb clean up and adjustment.

hey mate have you checked whether the float needles is sealing properly? could be that the carbs are flooding when the engine is stopped, but once the engine is started it is using enough fuel to keep the fuel level in the carbs in check. this would also require the fuel tap to be leaking out fuel when the tap is in the "on" position.
