Default 1981 Gpz 550 Race Bike

I raced this last year, and just finished repairing my crash damage..while at it, I installed 3 spoke 18" Gpz 750 wheels..my sons will race it this year, both rookie riders, one is 19, the other 17.

nice ride. I think that your kids would be just as happy on the track also.

Sweeeeet!
I had an 81 gpz 550,,,, and like an idiot I sold it back in 1990. A friend bought it and it still looks great, and runs as it did when I sold it.
I wish I'd kept it. He promised to sell it back to me if he ever sells it,,, and I'm waiting. I still think about all the Harley's and 750's I ate.

Now I have a 1981 GPz 1100 I'm working on,,, trying to get the ignition working after removing the FI.

Hey very nice race bike. I like to use it on my desktop if thats ok. Just getting back into bikes again after many many moon****king up a 1983 Kawasaki 305 gpz cheap to tinker with and get my feet wet again. I like the smaller displacement bikes under 600cc class like the 305GPZBandit 400's things like that. Alreadyknow what wheels used very clean. I like the dual rotors may I ask what was involved in that modification? I know I probably do not need themon the 305but the wow factor is there big time.

Default That's one good looking race bike

I've got an 81 GPz550 sitting in my garage waiting to become a track bike. I see now that I'm certainly not the first to have the idea. Without revealing any trade secrets I wonder if you could give a newbie a little advice. This will be my first race bike and "vintage" one at that. Are there any peculiarities with this bike I should look out for or stock parts I need to replace right away. I understand that stiffer suspension should be the first modification, any tips on where to get some new springs?

Thanks a million and I hope you are still enjoying yourself.

Cheers,
~Kyle
