Default broken switch

So I was changing out my clutch lever and somehow broke some sort of electric switch that seems to get depressed when the clutch is pulled in. I'm assuming this is some sort of safety switch as I have not noticed anything different than before with regards to starting? Is this something I need to get replaced or can I live without? By the way bike is 96 800 Vulcan custom.

It is a safety switch. So if the bike is in gear and the clutch is not pulled in, the bike will not fire. You can verify if it works or not, but sounds like you broke the plastic which will allow moisture to seep in the connection and cause future issues of a bike that will not start. Since it runs right now, plan for the future and have a spare switch on hand to replace. Enjoy your ride time.
