Default Considering 2006 Vulcan 500

I am considering buying a 2006 Vulcan 500 ltd. I own a 06 KLX 250s. (dual sport) but it doesn't have enough power for the road.( I am keeping it for off road). Any opinions on the 500. I am a new street rider! Any New Jersey riders out there???

I have a 2006 500 LTD and love it. I am 6' tall and weigh 250 lbs, and it is very comfy and plenty of power. Not finished with the break in period, so I can't crank it up hard yet, but have no doubt that it will haul me as fast as I would ever need to go. I'm sure that it will cruise on the highway but from what I've read, one may look at a larger bike with more weight for a lot of highway use. The only downside I have is the lack of a tach, and you can get it in any color as long as you choose red. Still, the finish looks great in the sun.

I am more than pleased with mine and would recommend one to anyone looking for a bike in the 500 cc range.

Blessings and ride safe,
Jon

So can this bike cruise easily at 80-85 mph, I am like the guy above and love the klx 250s, but I want something that I can get on and ride up to tennessee if I want, just a cruise on the road, or to the home depot without having to worry about giving it everything its got just to keep up with traffic. Would this bike fit the bill? Whats its true top speed?

I usually do 70-75 on the highways around here, and have had no problems with mine (2006 500 LTD). The only problem I have is that I feel a bit cramped, but that may just be that I am used to larger bikes ( used to have a 750 nighthawk with forward controls). I use this bike for everyday treks to and from work, as well as just going out and riding for a few hours. It is a very enjoyable bike to ride.

I was actually looking at Shadows, when I accidently found an older Vulcan 500 to ride...loved it so much I decided to get one. Found the '05 in CycleTrader with only 14 miles and BLUE!I'mfortunate! Thought I would only be able to ride my trike forever due to health problems, but found I can ride the 500. Still in break in but ramping up to higher speeds since I put 450 miles on it this first week! Best thing I ever did was get this great "little" bike; no one but 500 owners know it is really powerful! Like the best kept cruiser secret out there! I found more accessories than I first thought from all I have read. Even found driver floorboards! I was on I95 with it; would be better with a windshield. I bought it to cruise around town, and use my Goldwing trike for long distance, so not sure if I wouldget the shield or not at this point. onsidering saddlebags for raingear, but usually just have a small tool bag on the front for my necessities. I recommend this great cruiser to everyone, even bigger people (I am 5'5" and weigh 135). My trike has been getting a lot less ride time since I got the Vulcan!
