(Just offering a suggestion....not assuming you don't already know this...) Be gentle on the first few "kick-overs" to get it started. If it hasn't been turned-over in many years, I would pull the plug and spray some penetrating lube into the top end and let it sit for a day before kick-starting. Might even want to turn it by hand before using your foot, just to make sure the internals are still friends.
