My KLX mutila.....errr, modifications
Now that I've had the bike for a couple of weeks my Dr. Frankenstein syndrome kicked in and I had to start messing with it. Herewith some of the things I have done:
First, that torture device known as a seat. It needed radical foamectomy and I was happy to oblige. Here is the patient prepped for surgery.
And the operation underway:
And the patient after recovery (get it? RECOVERy):
Thence to the rear end, where I needed a storage box for tools, odds and ends, and occasionally my lunch. This watertight box was originally purchased for boating, but laid on its side and bolted to the rack it looked to be just about the right size (if not the right color):
Also put on some handguards I got on sale at Cycle Gear for only $25. They are actually very sturdy:
And finally a mount for my GPS...as you can see the unit has a tether attached just in case it flops out of the mount while on the trail:
I had to buy the handguards and rear rack, but everything else came from the parts bin and materials already on hand. I'm trying to keep costs down since the KLX is actually my back-up bike and I don't want to go too far down the spending road. My next project, in fact, is to find a way to attach a surplus windshield from the V-Strom.
