heating problemwith exhaust pipe
hey there,
I have just bought klx 250s second hand 2011 model and the ex-owner installed another handmade exhaust pipe with loud sound and some sort of performance, but recently I have just checked that the exhaust pipe exiting from the motor block and along the exhaust exit are heating terribly bad. I can even cook omelette on it : ) is this normal thing? as an old cbf user I am not so familiar with the model & brand. but now that machine is what I called a motobike.
another thing that I wonder is if there is any website supplying oem parts, I am searching through aliexpress and the goods are really cheap quality but they provide free shipping and that makes a huge difference.

Exhaust gasses run around 1500+ degrees, so it is pretty normal for the single wall exhaust to run hot. Let it sit and idle without wind flow and it will glow.
The KLX also has an air induction system to burn unburnt fuel in the exhaust which will make it run somewhat hotter. Some people remove the system and the header will run a bit cooler.
You will find any exhaust without heat shield to radiate a lot of heat.
You should at least pull the plug out to see if it is a light chocolate brown to make sure it isn't running too lean (lighter off white) or too rich (dark brown to black), either will run hotter than normal and is not good.
Hope that helps a bit.
