Default Gearing...

Will a 15t countershaft sprocket fit on the front with the cover still on?
Still looking at gearing options as of course, I want the impossible hehe-

I WANT dirtbike gearing, but I NEED to cruise at 60 ~ 65 mph on the road.

I'm probably missing half the equation with internal gear ratios, but 6th is .995 or so...

Stock 14X42 = 3 gear inches, let's call that 100% (42/14)
Let's choose a hypothetical 70 mph at a given rpm.
14X48 = 3.43 gi or 87% of stock.
Same hypothetical rpm would give me 60.9 mph
14X49 = 3.5 gi or 86% of stock
Down to 60.2 mph, not much change
15X49 = 3.27 or 92% of stock gearing.
Still down, but closer to stock at 64.4 mph

Thinking of a 49 rear and if too slow, I could slap in a 15t up front.
Does my cyphering seem good or am I way off base? Now be kind...

I've run a 15 no problem. I've done 65 mph no problem with the stock gearing. Heck, I did it with a 13/47 too, but that was reving pretty hard. Right now I'm at 13/42.

Original plan was 15/47 and 13/47. The former for general use, the latter for serious off road. The latter did a great job in deep sand and on the trails. Unfortunately when I put the new chain and sprockets on I made the mistake of taking off one link too many, the 15 didn't fit. So I went back to a 42. I'm thinking the 13/42 will do fine for my general off roading.

Thanks you guys, that helps alot! Having a six speed adds to our flexibility. If I was trail bike only, I would make first a throwaway gear you could walk beside for when needed and start in second all the time, just a thought. Thanks again! I'm keeping her bone stock until I pass my drivers test and get my license... Then, thanks to all the AWESOME help on this site, I will mod. Got the KDX 220 airbox boot and Devol 1" lowering link already, that's the one mod I may add before I take the test. Waiting on my dang torque wrench, they sent me wrong one, 25 to 250 ft lbs, uh no. 10 to 100 is backordered... AND, again thanks to all, I can't wait to try the Marcelino Cam mod! Not sure if I'll do a pipe, expensive and you could get shot in some of these hollers I ride, stealthy is good. Although not really had too many problems on my 2 stroke GasGas EC200 honestly, I've been stopped by landowners and I apologize and offer to walk it out, but they say just ride out...

I just wanted to say that I don't intentionally trespass, I'm just riding trails and sometimes I end up on private property...

I'm confused. You are looking to do 65? Or just looking to lower your RPM for more comfortable 65mph? I feel with stock gearing it is too high off road. I dropped down a tooth to feel better in the woods.

Im darn sure I've had my bike at 90 indicated. Probably 80 actual with bone stock gearing. I usually done run that fast. I usually cruise at 60 or so indicated on the street as I mostly ride 55mph roads when I do Street ride.

reinigef,

I ran a 49 for a long time and traded between 13, 14 & 15 countersprockets. It was a good setup for me.

This may help also: https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...-length-42553/

Yes, I will only ride 55 mph roads out of necessity to get to National
Forest fire roads. Mostly I'll be going about 10 mph hehe- I just want to be able to keep up with traffic on these back roads so I don't get mowed down. So much land I used to be able to ride on is closing down with gates for private hunting clubs. That's what prompted me to get the Kawi so I'm street legal.
