Gear box breather

About a year ago, I'd folded over the hose running from the crankcase to the K&N while working on the bike for some reason and forgot about it. When I started the bike I noticed smoke coming off the head pipe after a minute or two (!)...then I see there is a little oil seeping past the cam cover gasket onto the pipe at idle..
I was confused by that until I noticed the crankcase breather was still folded shut. The problem stopped for good when I straightened the hose out. The odd part as I look back at it is I'm sure the clutch cover breather hose was connected at the time, and I'm sure the crankcase cavity is connected to the clutch area one way or the other, yet that clutch cover breather arrangement wasn't releasing enough pressure by itself to prevent pressure from forcing oil past cam cover ...
