Well, I know I'm a professional mechanic. I have a plastic laminated wallet card that I designed right here in my own computer...even has my picture incorporated into it...with an official looking little seal thing stamped on it. It don't get no better, or more official, than that.

So I'm thinking I have neonarc's problem with the butterfly shaft seal.
At 43,000 miles, I have a mid-range stumble, then when I get to 5 or 6K rpm it takes off. It just started after I replaced my old KLX300 header and muffler with a new one, but hundreds of miles after, no other changes than the weather.
Am I richer or leaner than I was in winter? I always get that confused.
I'll change jets first to test, but which way.
Bike otherwise runs and starts great.

You'll need to converse (PM?) with Pwjm, Neonarc, and Snowdrifter.. I don't know if there are others with first hand knowledge of the issue, symptoms, and solution.

Sounds like you're trying to associate an older ("hundreds of miles after") exhaust work and weather to your problem. Since the old exhaust was replaced with a new same system, that cannot be a factor.. At 43k, and many years under its' "belt", there is no way a change of season or weather could have caused your bike to suddenly catch the stumbles in the midrange. On the other hand, have you gotten any "bad" fortune cookies lately?

Assuming you have summer vs winter temps that are crazy different, you'll tend to run richer in the summer and leaner in the winter - If your butterfly shaft seal is leaking, there is no way to bring your bike back to health with jet/needle/etc changes. Any "horsing around",with jets, clips, or anything else, that's different from when it ran correctly will have to be un-done. The bike must be the same, in every way, to when it ran right. This may not have anything to do with the carb at all..

Some or all of those guys should get you on the right track to diagnosing and solving your problem..

What are your thoughts on putting a Mikuni VM32 on a 2012 KLX250S ?
If I stick with the Keihen, where is the best place to buy the DJ kit ?
Thanks, Matt
