Default rear-end modification

Anyone tried converting the rear end of the ZZR600? I don't particularly like the tail lights, and the boxy fender is ugly. I love my bike, I'd just like to update the look a bit. I'm going to try and see what I can do myself with fiberglass...

I bought the bike a few months ago for $200. It's a 96 ZX6-E model. It runs great, minus some rough transmissions sounds when it's warming up. The body is in decent condition, though you can tell it's been dumped once or twice. Since the body needs fixing I figured I'd see what I can come up with, rather than just simply repairing the fairings.

ideas?...

I wonder if it is possible to fab a one-piece tail that will just slide over the frame, and mount to the original points. The tail light/sigis could be integrated and you could just hook up the wires.
