Chain and sprocket help for a 01 ZRX1200
 
Bought this bike used, and in great shape, but want to replace the chain and sprocket because it has 21000 miles and dont know if previous owner ever changed it. The steelership said that there is only one chain for this bike and its $220 and the sprockets were $80. Am I going to have to suck it up and pay that much or are there alternatives? Any help would be great.

1st, find a new dealer, 2nd don't buy from the dealer. You can get aftermarket for a hell of a lot cheaper. Get them online or find a cycle shop around your town. Motorcycle Superstore, Bike Bandit, Dennis Kirk, Ron Ayres are good places to buy online D.I.D, EK, RK, are good chains. Sprocket Specialist and Sunstar make good sprockets for the ZRX. IMHO get steel, not aluminum. Steel will last longer. A chain will usually cost between $140-$160. Sprockets will go for $40+ for the rear and $25-$40 for the front. I don't know if you feel comfortable installing them yourself, but it is easy. You would need to get a chain installation tool also. You can cut the old one of with a dremel. Also the front sprocket needs to be taken off with a impact wrench. Auto Zone usualy has tools you can borrow.

The ZRX 1200 stock sprockets are 17 front and 42 rear. Go down 1 in the front or up 2 in the rear helps get power to the road quicker. Doing both -1, +2 will really make it a wheelie machine.
