I just put a new Barrnet carbon fiber clutch in my bike. It did produce my best time in the 1/8 however I only got about 40 passes on it before it smoked. I run a stock 636 with home built exaust, slick and wheely bar. She has made me very proud by producing a 1.42 60 ft ET of 6.532 in the 1/8 with a 10.320 in the 1/4. Back to the matter at hand Is anyone else having problems smoking clutches and have you found any solutions?

From what i've read in the mags, Most bikes they test can't handle constant flogging like that. They were really impressed with the zx14's ability to race all day long for 2 days and not show one sign of wear. But I think its just part of the game. DO you have a powercommander yet?

it doens't, its off topic. but the more power you have the faster your burn through ur clutches.

I removed my mid pipe and cut my yoshi down so its only 5" long. No power comander. The only motor add ons are pipe and K&N. I have been told its from using the clutch on the track. And well I cant hit second with out using clutch. I have purchased a new clutch from Kawasaki and they suggested making the clutch stack thicker so we did. That was a week ago and im still waiting on parts. Another question i have is I have been told to slip my clutch while leaving the line. That I would actually get better times this way. Once again I have a slick and wheely bars so Iam leaving the line on the rev limiter and droping clutch. Its not bogin down so how would slidding the clutch help?

well the idea of clutch slippage is so your wheel doesn't spin/wheelie. the wheelie bar is helping you not wheelie, but even with a slick when you drop the hammer doesn't your rear tire spin while you take off? when launching on street tires usually you don't redline and drop it, usually you reaise revs to around 7k or so and slip the clutch on take off only enough not to wheelie and spin the rear tire. also you have a slipper clutch and i'm not sure if thats having any affect or not. i'm not raggin on you at all, but you should be running faster with an exhaust, slick tire and wheelie bar. but a stock 636 can run a 10.38 this is by a professional and corrected to sea level.

i ran 10.8's on mine stock, without a slick and wheeliebar. your 1/8th mile times is what seems off. i run 6.4's consistant on my stock 14. but getting to clutch problems, DONT GET A BARNETT clutch. time after time i hear they are not worth a ****. everyone says go with fact clutch fibers and maybe stiffer springs. i got 40 passes off my clutch and sunday i burnt mine up as well. fact clutch for 14 is $300.00 everyones telling me running synthetic will help keep clutch cooler.

I'm running a Tsukigi 4-1 exhaust with a PC3 the rest of her is all stock no extentions or starps. I get 10.12 1/4 mile runs constantly. The one thing I have the biggest issue with is the clutch life. I fried the stock clutch in less then 3300 miles with 40 passes at the track. I put in a Barnett heavy duty clutch and fried it within 300 miles and 15 passes at the track. Seems to me if this bike was designed to drag race then why are the clutches such a piece of s***? It costs $200.00 a pop to do the clutch each time it fries. Would it not be a good idea for Kawasaki to do like Susuki and put some dimples in the steels to help pull the heat away from the fibers? The one thing I see is the biggest problem with the clutch is they run to darn hot which fries the fibers. Don't mistack my hatred of the clutch problem for hatred of the bikebecause I LOVE the ZX14 I have. When I can keep a clutch in it it runs like mad. I have had the bike tuned and it pulls 192 HP at the reare wheel with 112 ft torque. If anyone has an idea for keeping a clutch in the bike PLEASE let me know.

what oil are you running?

i've heard mixed things about different oils and clutch problems.. some say full synthetic will make the clutch slip. some say it keeps it cooler.

I'm curious what you are running currently
