Rule #1

My Rule #1 is to never go faster than you can panic-stop; always be looking for the escape route if you get in a jam.

Great #1 rule. Wasn't mine when I started riding at 15. I was soon educated, but luckily without any disaster.

(Agree, ID^) As I get older, I think the toughest skill is not about "going fast" but rather how smoothly you can safely get stopped in any situation. Heck; any monkey can twist a throttle, point/shoot, and hang on at speed....
