You do have one other option that may not be too costly. You can use the pre-2009 KLX250S and any KLX300R rear rotor if you get the caliper carrier as well. The rotor is 20mm smaller diameter and requires the shorter carrier.

I did a deal with a rider here getting his pre-09 carrier for my 2009 carrier. I had the smaller rotor and wanted to keep it, plus they are easily had for about $20. The smaller rotor works for me because I am a heavy front brake user on road and the set up is slightly less powerful, which works great off road. I can still lock the rear brake up if I want.

My bike didn't have the right bigger rear rotor when I got it and I intentionally went for the smaller rotor. You can either do the carrier and caliper or just the carrier, the calipers are the same.

I glanced at ebay, an entire rear brake set up from pedal back to caliper carrier is $22.50 including shipping and a rotor can be had for $25 including shipping. It is a bolt on with maybe having to drill the rotor holes a bit bigger. They used smaller rotor bolts on earlier models. Not a big thing. Front rotors are a bolt on exchange should you ever need one of them.

Ideally I want the same one because I swap out the wheels between my dirt setup and supermoto and I want to do it with the least possible changes (me lazy ). But if I dont find anything in the next few days then this is the route I guess.

Thanks for taking the time to write up such a detailed description - really appreciate it.

So you buy two rotors, still probably less cost than the one newer bigger rotor. Less than $100 and you have two rotors and the rear brake assembly, sell your other big rotor and get most of your money back. After all, you know the market for the large rotor is definitely a seller's market.

The only reason Kawasaki ever did the big rotor was because of the noobies that mainly use the rear brake. That same 220mm smaller rotor is used on a bazillion KXs as well as the KLX300s and 650s.
