Some Food For Thought on Car insurance.

Since my mustang isbeing insuredthrough my parents insurance companyuntil July, I went down tomy insurance providerto suspend the coverage on the Taurus that I sold on saturday until July when my parent's insurance coverange lapses. My providertold me it would be best if I kept the coverage on the Taurus so I wouldn't loose any of my current benefits. (which I thought was strange, but hear me out.)They uppedmy currentdeductable to $1000.00 which dropped my payments from about $280 per half-yr, to only $62 per half-yr. That almost saves me five timesmore per billing cycle from when I had a$500 deductable!

So, if I can go at leasttwo years without having to pay the higherdeductable in the event of a wreck, then my savings from having the $1000.00 deductable pays for itself. And,from then on,I'm simply saving nearly $500 per year on myinsurance!

I think it's a good idea as long asyou're a good driver. I've been driving for almost ten years now without ever having an accident, so I might just do it once I start insuring the mustang.

I do the same thing...it's nice...I am on the same household as my parents, even though I live 80 miles away...and I have my own policy with the deductibles cranked up to $1000.

I wonder whether or not you automatically have to pay the whole thousand bucks even if say, you ran into somebody and only caused $300 in damages. Would the insurance company just let you pay out of your own pocket for such a small amount?

Yeah, you have to pay everything up to 1000, then after that they start paying, if its less than 1000, insurance doesnt really get involved.
Great deal I say go for it.

Hell yes! I've gotta do it then. I bet the motorcycles would be really cheap too.

What Prom said....I have been on my own for insurance and just using my parents' household since I turned 18, it's pretty easy...it also helps to have an agent that knows what is going on.

Yeah deffinately know your agent. If you ever have a problem you want them to know you by name. When I was on my parents insurance, the whole agency knew my family and we never had a problem getting stuff taken care of.
