Reminder as to why we should all drive defensively regardless

Guys, I lost a fellow rider on Friday night. He was racing a novice rider riding southbound on I-65 when he began to approach a curve. Before entering the curve he looked over his shoulder to see where the novice rider was. By the time he looked up it was too late. He ran off the road and the front end started shaking. He ended up hitting a light pole head first. His helmet shattered and killed him on impact. One of the other riders started doing chest compressions on him. His chest would come up but when he stopped putting air in his lungs, he would exhale blood.

All of this would have been avoided it he would not have been racing and assing off. I know racing is something we all like to do every now and then but damn, lets keep it on the strip. Now this guy left behind a wife and a child. All for nothing!

sorry to hear this..... my sympathies....

chik636rydr 10-27-2008 08:37 PM

ya know, things like this make you reevaluate the way you ride and what you could have done to prevent it. Most all of your safety mishaps can be prevented though being safe.

deej 10-27-2008 08:43 PM

Dang :( I got a wife and an 11 year old son. I think about what they would do if I was gone. It hurts just to think about it...............

NMbottlecap 10-27-2008 09:36 PM

everyone tonight check your bike out, and don't miss anything, also check the helmets. This is a sad day for us as riders.

MSGT-R 10-27-2008 09:40 PM

..and check your attitude. Even if you're not married, someone loves you that you will leave broken-hearted and behind. Think twice before doing something impulsive.

Dragone#19 10-27-2008 11:49 PM

ouch, sorry on the loss of a fellow rider.

Man dang hoedogg.... I hate to hear that man.

What is scary is that you never know if or when it will be one of us. But ya gta take a little chance to do things you enjoy.

I am really sorry to hear that chic636 and hoedogg. My thoughts and prayers go out to you

whitehendrix 10-28-2008 06:15 AM

amen.. ya..

my condolences to both you and the families, hoe and chik.. damn..

thats a good reason i stopped stuntin an racing on the streets.. too many times i've either had close calls or thought (after riding at sub-200mph speeds for LONG distances) "chit.. what if..."

it's just not worth it. i can't remember the last time i street raced. but thats a good thing i think..

MSGT-R 10-28-2008 02:56 PM

That's a big bravo for that self assessment!
And an even bigger BRAVO for saying it in public!!!

mandark 10-28-2008 07:27 PM

My condolences for the loss of your friend, though it makes me almost as angry as sad to hear when people are lost this way. There is one sure-fire way to prevent something like this from happening...use the most important piece of safety gear you have - your head.

It's a senseless tragedy because it could easily have been prevented by saving the racing for the track.

whitehendrix 10-29-2008 05:36 AM

thanks, MSGT-R.. about that time as well, i had known about 3 or 4 ppl that got killed goofing off on the streets. one was doing a wheelie when he hit the back of a flatbed.. him.. not the bike.. cut him in half basically..another good friend was blowing down some street and hit a jeep at like, 130 something that was backing out of a driveway.. a few other had gone down at supersonic speeds on the interstate.
i have a few cop buddies that told me horror stories from chases, and i good riding buddy was a mortician at the time, and also kinda told me some hings that made me settle down.

i mean, we're in the danger zone whether on the street OR track. i live right down the road from summit point raceway, and a buddy is a track worker there. i hear al lthe time about racing deaths there.. it sucks. we just have to stick together and all be vigilant, responsible and safe.

kawi750r 10-29-2008 06:26 AM

it sucks but that is the risk you take doing those things and being part of the sub-culture ya know? i've done my fair share of racing both street and strip and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. seen many deaths from the pits, accidents, injury's, cops (lol), etc and it's not pretty but it goes with the territory and we all KNOW that

MSGT-R 10-29-2008 02:28 PM

..and some of us manage to live to be old and still have fun in the process.

No, I don't do any of that on the streets.

chik636rydr 10-29-2008 03:58 PM

I do mine on the streets but on streets with no traffic and curves on it.

MSGT-R 10-29-2008 06:03 PM

The "no traffic" is the big one.

kawi750r 10-30-2008 05:20 AM

yeah secluded areas are key. not running down mainstreet for me....mostly cuz of cops tho lmao.

OMalley912 11-02-2008 10:10 PM

Wow, really sorry to hear about that chick and hoe. Just got caught up from the last few days Always tragic to hear. My thoughts and prayers go out to you...To think I was riding like and idiot the last few days pulling some sweet double lane passes, guess i'll slow down for awhile.
