out of state title transfer, etc.
anyone know how this usually works? i live in pa, and the bike owner lives in ohio, could he just sign the title over to me, and then what? i've never done any of this out of state before/
you will have to get it transfered to your name in ohio first. PA is really ****ty about things like this. in order to get somehting transfered in pa, both parties must be present and both must have a pa licience. So in order for you to do this, you must get the bike transfered in your name in ohio before you bring it back to pa.
call ohio dmv and make sure you can transfer a title with a pa licience.

These are the steps for your state:
1) A valid title for all of the vehicles you want to register in Pennsylvania, from previous state;
2) Proof of Pennsylvania insurance, such as a valid insurance identification card, declaration page of an insurance policy, a copy of a valid binder or a copy of an application for insurance to the Pennsylvania Assigned Risk Plan for all of the vehicles you will be registering. These documents must indicate both effective and expiration dates.
3) Completed Form MV-1 (This is a restricted form and is not available on-line. You must obtain from a messenger, tag agency or any Driver and Vehicle Service Center location.
4) A tracing of the vehicle identification number (VIN) or the verification of the VIN by an inspection mechanic or notary public at a dealership or issuing agent.
5) Appropriate title, lien, registration fees and sales tax (if applicable). Make checks or money orders payable to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Please do not send cash
Basically you will follow steps for new registration but also steps for new residence.
When I bought my bike in NY and live in CT. I just needed the registration form, valid title signed by seller and you, bill of sale, proof of insurance and your proof of residence (ID).

since we are trailering the bike back you won't have to have the insurance for the title transfer. you'll only need it when you decide to put a pa plate on it. PA is so stuipd about all of this. I couldn't even transfer my own car from tx without 1. having my wife present and 2.she had to have a valid pa licience as well b/c the car was in both our names.
