I told you guys that I would climb a tower sooner or later

So anyway, I have been working on our water delivery system up here at work these past few weeks. Sometime close to a month ago lightning hit the building and took out my water controller PLC. This is a picture of the old...and you can see the Fluke meter that the guy from the company that designed this system had.
Attachment 16887 The system is 16 years old and was outdated, so he replaced the power supply and the PLC with a new version. Attachment 16888 Seeing how nice a real meter was got me to thinking about getting one. Especially after I blew the tip almost in half on my needle nose pliers a few weeks ago. So I found a sweet deal from Grainger and ordered it. The silicone leads are so nice, no kinks or twisting. And the magnetic strap is the bomb! It's the best thing to come along in 20 years. Hands free!!!! Attachment 16889 Here is the set I got for under 3 bills Attachment 16890 The alligator clips are soooo nice. I've never had them before, and I have to say why did I go all these years without them? It also came with this nice bag, although I am thinking about getting a Pelican case to keep it better organized. Attachment 16891 Ok so onto the tower.....One last thing was that I needed to change out the Overflow float switch. Waiting for a good day where it wasn't raining. Finally Last Thursday the sky was clear and it was time to climb for the 4th time in 2 weeks. I hate heights, but sometimes you just gotta suck it up and do it. Here's me with the harness, Attachment 16892 The tower....YIKES! Attachment 16893 The switch Attachment 16894 Ok deep breath Attachment 16895 Is that a crack I see on the slider? LOL Attachment 16896 At the top....whew! Attachment 16897 View Attachment 16898 Looking back down..... Attachment 16899 NPR Radio antenna.....500 watts, and yes I shut it down, my nads are already small enough, don't need more shrinkage...LOL Attachment 16900 Ok so that was 10:30 am and after lunch I replace a bridge that had fallen apart. Old growth Fir. I love working with all of this stuff. Attachment 16901 Attachment 16902 Attachment 16903 I know....kind of a Hodgepodge....... is a word used to describe a confused or disorderly mass or collection of things; a "mess" or a "jumble All in a days work. Never two days the same. Comments? Questions? LOL |
Nice pix. The one looking down the ladder is pretty brave given you don't like heights
|
Not a big fan of heights myself. Nice job on that bridge - looks SOLID!
|
not dissin' your work deej by no means. I may have placed either a two by two on the top railing for the bridge instead of the two by fours, or even used the two by fours on top of the uprights as a lip. You already have the bridge dirty. hahaha
congrats on the meters too. Trust in your tools is key. |
Yeah the problem with putting a 2x4 on the top is that screws don't hold very long on end grain. I'm not making these for hikers convenience, they are for durability. ;)
|
That radio antenna is what I would be there for! welcome up to the top!
hope you had fun- I've been on some big towers with lots of exposure. |
