I know we have computer geniuses here!
I didn't see another forum for this and I guess I really just need to rant for a bit!!!
I get up this morning and everything's fine. I'm streaming some video from launchcast waiting for somebody to wake up and get on AIM when I lose my internet connection. I have roadrunner. The data light is still flashing on my modem. So i disconnect it's plug into the computer, reconnect, nada.
Went through their stupid tech support (they were clueless). I unplug, replug, and now my cable light flashes. So fine, I disconnect the cable, reconnect, same problem. No connection and now the cable light flashes.
My screensaver was running slow, so I restarted my computer. First two times, I got an Intel Pentium screen and Windows wouldn't load. I turned the entire computer off for 30 seconds, restarted and Windows loads, but with a crazy date from 2001! I get all of that fixed, internet is back up, woohoo. I get on AIM, and talk to who I was waiting for, and then a few minutes later, roadrunner is gone, again!!
The only thing tech support suggested is that it might be my cable modem because it's about two years old, but why would that cause my OS to screw up?? Anybody got any helpful suggestions while I'm still at work and have Internet access?? I have a VPR Matrix (by Porsche) computer, and I'm running Win XP, home edition.
The only thing I've done different in the last month is I added a plug-n-play webcam yesterday. No software, just USB. HELP! I can't do without internet; I already gave up cable! lol

No idea. My Virus software is kinda out of date. I'm snagging my copy of NAV 2005 from work to put on my computer. I just hope our tech guy gave me a full cd instead of cheating!! If so, I'm screwed!
Hmm, so will stripping the hard drive and re-installing my OS work?? Or am i gonna have to throw my computer away and start over? I admit I keep at lot of data on my computer, but I can delete it all and just run AIM, YIM and MSN. I'd be happy just being able to connect to my friends.
nah...you can go to different sites and download trial versions of their virus software and get 'cleaned up'. I used AVG...seems ok to me, but there may be more intelligent opinions from someone on here...I'm not a techno guy..
Ah...that would pose a problem....I had a virus not long ago, and I had to start in safe mode and manually delete some of the crap that got loaded and then I was able to get online and get some software, but I honestly don't remember what I did....Have to see if Patrick can help...
If you can manage to get online......I used this one, it has a free trial and it got rid of my problems http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper If you can't get online, you should go buy some virus software from a computer place, usually its not too expensive.
As for re-installing your OS, you would have to format your hard drive to get rid of any traces of the virus. But, you'll lose everything.

I'm gonna snag my office copy of NAV 2005 to install. The computer is up and running at the moment. I'm gonna back up EVERYTHING onto cds tonight and then try to reinstall my OS.
