Default Has anyone recently bought a computer?

Doesn't matter what brand, but I need some feedback for a research project to create a more sustainable ("green") production solution for a certain computer manufacturer who is sponsering the project. Either way, I need to know if you bought it at a store or online and what did you do when you recieved it.

For instance, what packaging did it come in?

How many steps did it take for you to open the box (was there plastic wrap or tape you had to cut?)

How many pieces make up the box that it came in?

How many packets did you get?

Did you read any of them?

What did you immediately throw away?

Did it come with anything that you most likely won't use?

Anything along these lines and in somewhat of a process. I know most of you might think this is too much to respond back to but it would greatly help me. Thanks guys.

BTW, does anyone maybe work for a Best Buy or Circuit City? Some place that would retail? I would need some information of shipping, shelving, etc.

I recently bought a laptop so this is how it came.

what packaging did it come in?
cardboard box outside
two styrofoam spacers at each end of the laptop
the laptop it self was wrapped in this thin, almost cloth like styrofoam

How many steps did it take for you to open the box (was there plastic wrap or tape you had to cut?)

knife to cut the tape, then the box was open

How many pieces make up the box that it came in?
one major piece that was folded to make the box then stapled in place and then one of the ends was glued and the other was taped.

How many packets did you get?
3

Did you read any of them?
no

What did you immediately throw away?
nothing yet

Did it come with anything that you most likely won't use?

the free internet offers and antivirus stuff,

I just got a new laptop at work, but I didn't have to do anything, it was all setup by the IT guys. Dual display system is awesome!

Bought a new laptop for my wife last month. It came in a box that opens like a book...no cutting required. The box was one piece. Got a few packets...read none. Threw away some plastic bags that accessories came in, but kept the box just-in-case. Bought it at HHGregg.

If they want to save trees they should stop sending me flyers and packets with computers, I don't want aol...earthlink...or any other crappy internet.

For instance, what packaging did it come in?
big cardbard box, stuff inside was encased in styrofoam

How many steps did it take for you to open the box (was there plastic wrap or tape you had to cut?)
box was taped, foam was taped together and the keyboard n' such was in individual plastic bags inside another box and set of foam blocks

How many pieces make up the box that it came in?
one big solid box, with one smaller one on the inside for the keyboard mouse etc.

How many packets did you get?
instruction manual, set up packet and the tech service booklet.

Did you read any of them?
nope. just threw em' out, i already know all that ****

What did you immediately throw away?
instructions, the box and tape, i gave away the keyboard and mouse (i have aftermarket ones) and i used the styrofoam to make napalm

Did it come with anything that you most likely won't use?
everything i threw away

Way to contribute to global warming

Speaking of which...where is my global warming? I'll settle for just some statewide warming. Those liars.
