This doesnt make sense

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Articl...796&Page=1

this article states that the new 08 busa makes 166 HP and the ZX14R makes 161HP

Az posted an article stating the 08 ZX10R had 170HP at the rear wheel. i ama little confused am i missing something this same website states that the busa made 200HP at the crank. do they really lose that much or is something off

i guess it could be different dynos

MeansGo 01-19-2008 09:14 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

Different dynos, different elevations, different weather can all make for different hp/trq readings.

BlackNinjaZX6R 01-19-2008 09:18 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

**** its stupid to buy a busa or 14 then

MeansGo 01-19-2008 09:20 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

Well if you're drag racing it, then fine.

Agreed, unless you are buying them for the more comfortable riding position.

I have tsukigi exhausts, nitros, and remap, when I hit the juice button, my 14 is running around 200 HP. I am saving for a big bore kit and a supercharger.
Some day it will be fast enough but for now, it eats busas and ZX-10's.

RE: This doesnt make sense

TRUE but arent they supposed to be the horsepower kings

zzrick 01-19-2008 09:25 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

Are we supposed to believe anything he says?

The 14's are actually touring bikes, so they are much more comfy for long rides than the forward position of the 10.

RE: This doesnt make sense

BN, crank hp is allways more than wheel hp.

BlackNinjaZX6R 01-19-2008 09:27 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

there pretty agressive touring bikes then

zzrick 01-19-2008 09:28 PM

Yes they are.

i know whats your point

Busa Crank 200+ wheel 166
14r wheel 161
10r wheel 170
R1 wheel 162

Dragone#19 01-19-2008 09:40 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

My 10r only makes 161 to the wheel on a 110 deg day and conditions. On the one dyno that I tuned on. Am curious on the 08 10r though with more testing.

evil636 01-19-2008 09:41 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

whats it make at the crank ?

BlackNinjaZX6R 01-19-2008 09:43 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

i didnt see the numbers for the other bikes on the crank actually i did see that the 14 was over 200 as well i just figured those bikes would put more out at the wheel

Dragone#19 01-19-2008 09:44 PM

Never tested that side of it evil, so am not sure

tsukigi exhausts are nice

It had better eat the zx10r with the added cc's. Then again, the rider plays a big part on whats for dinner.

RE: This doesnt make sense

true that but consider your source

Deuce 01-20-2008 08:13 AM

RE: This doesnt make sense

I'd say torque is where the zx-14 eats the 10r. I haven't gotten the specs but I can only assume the torque is where the major difference would be since the displacement is much higher.

uh no there pretty close i think

BlackNinjaZX6R 01-20-2008 02:11 PM

actually im wrong the busa and 14 have about 20 or so more ft lbs

RE: This doesnt make sense

I'd love to put my zrx onto a dyno and see what she pushes.I know it's piped and jetted and running the K&N filter,I should ask the guy exactly what has been done. All I know is that it will stand up anytime you want.Last week did the oil change and plugs while it was about 60 degrees out and took it for a few runs and had a buddy with a zx-9 try it and he said it pulls alot harder than his 9.

keep in mind that is only the peak hp.

the higher displacement bikes will have a brouder power range. more area under the curve (on a dyner graph)

area under the curve is what matters in racing not peak number.

power loses in a transmission are not linear. you don't always lose say 15% through the tranny. the more power is being put into the tranny the greater the % of power loss will be.

example. on a car with 100hp it might lose 15% at peak, the same tranny with 200hp at the crank may lose 20% and one with 300hp may lose 25%.

Agreed, hence the reason I said that. I don't know many people who buy Busa's or ZX14's for many other reasons. Racing is usually the name of the game on those bikes.

Look at the Bugatti Veyron. 1,000rwhp, but supposedly makes 3,000 at the crank. A wee bit over the standard 15%.:)

Kohburn 01-21-2008 05:29 PM

RE: This doesnt make sense

and the 15% is on the low end for FWD cars.
AWD usually STARTS at about 25%

RE: This doesnt make sense

The 10's are great bikes but I am 6' 4" tall and it I dont think I would be confortable for long on a 10. The 14 is the smoothest bike I have ever ridden. It is almost like riding a bike with an electric motor, and it is hard to realize how much torque it is putting down. The Tsukigis help because you can at least hear the motor and that helps you gauge the torque it's producing.
The 14 is a touring bike but I have hit the twisties with some local Squids and they were surprised that I could staypretty close on their tails through the corners.
On the straights they dont stand a chance.
Somebody said it right, it is mostly the rider when things get close to equal. I seen a kid with a 10 walk all over an 07 Busa, did my heart good!
