Default Crazy ride into work this morning

So... I've been helping house-sit at my Mom's place in a little town near Bremerton while she flies back to NC to pick up the rest of her stuff. I decided to take my bike because it's like $6 each way on the ferry instead of $14. That's all well and good... Only problem is I forgot that she has one hell of a hill up to her house, along a loose gravel/dirt road. Now, I figured, oh hell, it can't be all that bad. Then this morning it's raining.. so now it's a gravel/mud road, with big steep downhills, and sharp 5mph turns... EEEAK! Either way, I figured it'd be some good practice in a very controlled environment (sortof). Made it down the hill w/no problems... Then onto the ferry.

As I get closer to Bremerton, there's this fairly long downhill stretch coming into town and someone decides to panic stop in front of me... No biggie, I had plenty of following distance, so I start slowing... doing about 15mph when the *** end starts to come around front to greet me. Kinda funny, with all that talk we had about the rear brake recently. I kept it in control, all the practice from earlier this morning coming in very handy, and slowly turn into the slide and put the back end where it belongs, stopping with a several feet to spare... Wow. crazy.

THEN, just when I get on the ferry, and things are "normal" again... There's an announcement over the loudspeaker... Someone's spotted a life ring in the water, and of course the captain is obligated to check it out. I love maritime law. Now, this is an hour long ferry ride, and any slowing causes delays... and it's a huge ferry, so there's a lot of people that are going to be late for work. They send out a rescue crew, and pick up not 1, but 3 life rings... And they turn out to be from OUR boat! WTF? Turns out some guy thought it'd be fun to throw life rings overboard... They explain what happened over the loudspeaker, and also add "And the person responsible for this is in custody". Everyone on the boat cheers! Some suggested throwing him in the water to make it a "real" rescue... I was thinking it's time for a good ole keel-haul myself.

All I know is... this guy is in some deep trouble.. as I think it might even be a federal offense... Anyone know for sure? I'm going to do some checking.

That's about all for my crazy morning... Just glad to be sitting at my desk at work, where nothing unusual can happen... right.. RIGHT?

Thanks... I still had to check my shorts after it was done!

How are you healing up? They ever figure out why your foot was swelling?

Yeah..lol.. Checking your pants was a good call. I would have done that too.

Nope, no answers yet, but the swelling has gone down cause I'm in a stupid boot. I'm getting a Bone Scan done next week. The foot is feeling a bit better, I don't care anymore at this point. They refussed my MRI two times. I'm walking on braces, but I just want to be cured..lol..

But I'm happy to hear you pulled out of your situation good. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Glad to hear at least the swelling has gone down some. Didn't know what a Bone Scan was... so had to look it up. Crazy things they do with medicine these days. Still crappy that they won't do the stupid MRI for you, but that's what you get when you have insurance companies playing doctor. [:@] Hope you can take that boot off soon... I know of a good place you can put it when you're better .

Thanks again.. Get well soon girl!

Bremerton as in Washington? I was watching the news about a drunk driver that forced his way on to the ferry there and then got arrested on the other side, LOL crazy people. By the way I live on the Olympic Peninsula, waaaaaaaay out by the ocean, and my commute to work, the post office and well anywhere here is 2 miles, I love that a traffic jam here is when two cars get to the 4 way stop at the same time. Most of the time my 2 mile commute to work involves me and the road, and once in a while another car

Yep, Brermerton as in Washington. I hear it's a great place to reside.

Never been to Forks before... Well, at least not for long. I think I drove through it the only time I've been out on that side of the Olympics. I took a trip w/a bunch of friends to La Push to go camping on the beach in these little A-Frame cabins. That was a lot of fun... Of course, being from Hawaii, after the long drive + ferry ride, I went running for the water.

Any good roads out there you can recommend? I've been up to Baker, did the Cascade Loop, and out to Rainier, so I think it might be time to hit the Olympics.. Then to Mt. St. Helens...
