RE: Potective Gear,Whatch that trail!!
I'm brandy spanking new to motos and the forum but here's my .02. I plan to have on either 50/50 boots + knee/shin guards OR full moto boots + moto pants + Dainese safety jacket (includes chest plate, shoulder/elbow/arm plates, articulated spine plate) + FF helmet + goggles anytime I'm hitting the dirt and probably the road (although I did buy a Joe Rocket jacket that has the spine plate and elbow/forearm guards as an alternative). First I'm a newbie to the motor, but equally important I'm a veteran mountain biker that does a lot of freeride and downhill. Hence already owning the knee/shin and Dainese safety jacket - have a FF helmet too but it isn't DOT rated so I had to get another one. For all the times I've bounced off the ground with only a bad sprain or contusion vs. a fracture the extra $, effort, and sweat have more than paid off.
Besides, what else am I gonna do til I pass my basic riding course and the snow melts other than dress up in all my gear and sit on the bike in the basement??!!! [sm=smiley29.gif]

I am from CO and now in AZ and this place sucks. But, to add to protection.....20 some odd years ago riding on a 1981 rm125 I went down a steep trail/wash and got wooped out and my (i have to look at my leg), right leg has 3 distinct rake scars from the foot peg peeling away the flesh when my foot came off (just the normal ride next to home, but no need for gear). Dam I'm 43 now. I've broken my back, collar bone, one leg and both arms since then. I did by a KX500 for the dunes but haven't broken a bone since 98, knock on wood i guess.

Old *** thread... but for some protection while riding the trails. I dont like bulky stuff, due to the fact that i can't move around and don't feel as free. Don't get it twisted, I'm a huge fan of ATGATT but riding trails is much different for me.. I just stick with some body armor and knee/leg pads from http://www.motorcyclehouse.com and my local motorsports place. No jersey, no jacket or anything. Maybe a backpack at best.
