yet another question

alright so in my journey to come up with some of the more pointless questions on the page ive got one for oil. ive read on a couple pages that people are using a bunch of diff. weights of oil and i was wondering what the right one is? and since you guys always know the answers i figured id hit ya up. i was planning on going with redline synthetic because i hear really good things about them. now in standard oil they have the 10W40 which is what i was going to put in, but they also have 15W40 racing oil but it says not good for use on the street and thats where i'm going to be using it. what do you guys think?

RE: yet another question

Firstly Donvierdo you understand the specifications on oil? What temps you plan on running the ride? I know, kinda in depth.

My manual states a number to go by (within certain tempretures). I followed that number but then switched to a synthetic after my break in. Same numbers also. I chose Amsoil for my use. So if 10/40 is recommended, prolly a good chance in staying with that number.

thanks for the reply, and thats what i figured i just hear a lot of people that use diff. weights that are doing the same type of riding i am doing. thats why i asked.

toates there is a difference. If i'm right bike oil is kinda of a better grade oil then auto oil.And with a bike our little engines run almost twice as fast as an cars engine. Mepersonaly am running 10w 50respol synthic racing oilin my bike. there isn't much difference in 10w 40 comparied to 10w 50. but the 10w 50 is rated for higher temps than the other oil. And i know in my area it gets pretty hot in the summer months which i do most of my riding.

Hope that helps you guys out a little.

Don't forget that your clutch uses the same oil as the engine.

I think there's a parallel thread here with another forum category. See the one entitled "Car oil..."
