New owner of a ZX9R
 

I bought a 2001 Zx9R with 14k miles on it and ofcourse it didnt have the manual with it. I want to do a oil change and was wondering the oil capacity and if anyone has used a Fram 6607 oil filter?

Also would like to know the tire pressures that Kaw recommends to.

i bought a 2003 with 11k, my oil capacity was on a little sticker near the oil window, im sure most people peel them off guy i got mine from was 52 took amazing care of the bike. i was wondering when most people do valve adjustments, do you wait till it runs ruff or just do it when kawa recomends also what does the average shop charge for that kind of service?

I looked at the free download of the manual its in German i think so not much help. I looked for a sticker but did not see it. So i did the only thing i could and use the oil level sight glass. So if anyone can look in there manual and pass all the maintenance milage recommendations i be grateful.

When i bought my bike the previous owner changed the stock gearing. He told me he went down one in the front and up two on the rear. The bike seems very powerful and was wondering if that change was needed and wouldn't that mess up the odemeter and the speedo? Would it be best to change it back since im more of a sport touring guy not a wheelie man?

The gearing change is pretty much just for wheelies, the 9 has plenty of power on tap. You will be happier with the stock gears if you use it for long rides, lower RPM at highway speeds will be much nicer. I'm not sure where the 9 gets its speedo info from, if it comes from the front wheel like mine then the speedo and odo will be fine, if it comes from the tranny they will be off.

people do adjust gearing to meet the demands of the road prom. I could have used a -1/+4 on this last weekend.

You could try the stock gearing on the 9r, but you may just get used to the current gearing for testing purposes.

I did look at the current gearing and i had to search out the standard geraing which is 16/41 and mine is 15/42. The speedo looks to have a sensor over the front sproket so i can see now why the sppedo is off due the the lower geared one is on it. I got a 16t on oreder and i would be happier anyways it should cruise better and not be as wheelie happy.
