i post this on gen tech. but probably better here. but can anyone tell me what's causing my bike to start? it's buzzing from the igniter box. here's a video to make it more understandable. i appreciate the help guys

sounds like you just got a low battery, man..

try jumping the starter solenoid with a screwdriver.. MAKE SURE YOU'RE IN NEUTRAL!

the bike will move off the stand if its in gear and ya do this..

if the bike won't turn over. its definitely the battery, or the voltage..

theres nothing in the CDI that should make that noise..

when the chatter happens, feel around when it's doin it.. i'd go right to the starter solenoid first.. you should be ableto feel the buzz from he contact bounce..

i'd honestly put money on low voltage or a shytty connection reducing the voltage somewhere..

***just for fun.. a rundown on why relay chatter occurs.. (optional reading)***

ok.. everythings engineered to pull a certain amont of power to function properly.. the starter need X amount of volts and amps to spin the load of the motor and its compression to a speed sufficient to start it running.

the relay that controls this also needs a certain voltage to be able to function. the (spring-loaded) contacts inside are mechanically actuated by a plunger surrounded by an electromagnet.

when the contacts close (when you push the start button) the power flows to a very high-current load... the starter..

with all the power it needs to operate, sometimes the battery can't keep up a sufficient output, and the starter pulls power away from everything else.. including its own relay.

now, with this voltage drop, the magnetic field needed to maintain contact closure is decreased to the point to where the solenoid can no longer keep the contacts closed.

the contacts open..

the starter loses power..

the power suddenly catches back up in the battery, giving the solenoid enough juice to close again.

the solenoid closes..
the starter pulls immense power..

well, you get the pic by now.

as lon as ya hold the start button in, the cycle will continue until the battery is too dead to even close the solenoid.

so, there ya have it. voltage drop induced contact bounce.. in a nutshell.

Yea sounds like a dead battery to me. Try to jump it from another small 12v system. If it starts right up then you need to get a battery tender or a new battery or both.;)

why does the starterloose powerwhen the clutch leveris half way open or closed (in neutral of course)???
Seems like it was engineered that way but still I think its dumb
keep on rockin!

thanks alot guys. i have a new battery, but to be on the safe side, if get a relay, where can i get one and how much are they?

Yes, EZ.. it does, due to the contacts not being fully engaged or disengaged.. you break the starter safety cutout circuit.

preemo.. as far as your relay.. the best be would be a stealership or online parts source.. not sure of a price tho man.. sorry.
