You are probably pushing to hard and normally you will be down shifting. Should be going down into neutral from second.

The tranny was designed not to go into neutral while moving to make sure that it doesn't happen when racing. Yes, it is very difficult I agree just like it's also hard to put it in second gear while stopped.

Yes!
I can get my bike into neutral at 35-40 mph and just cost from there. You have to rev while the clutch is engaged a little to match the engine and trany but it’s not too hard. Your bike can find neutral while riding and if you shift to fast and miss it can find a false neutral, like when you are rapidly up shifting, do not apply enough pressure and the bike revs like it is in neutral then when the revs fall its slips in.

Bike will not up shift while not moving because you must be at a cretin rev to get the gear to engage.

this is the closest thread i could find so sorry for the necro posting -- I'm currently stuck in second gear. i can go up but i can't go down bellow 2nd. maybe i'm just doing something wrong but this seems wierd to me.

I should explain that today was my first time getting out of 1st gear since i've been practicing driving around my lawn (1 acre) without a liscense plate so far.

Make sure your chain is adjusted and not too loose. For some reason, these bikes don't like to shift with a loose chain. Do you have a rear stand? Put it up on the stand and try going through the gears after you adjust the chain. If you try too hard, you an bend the shift forks so be gentle. Don't kick it down.
