Default whining sound. normal?

hey guys. i just finished up fixin up my bike after that crash i took a couple weeks back. i took it out today for a spin and noticed a whining sound when i accelereate in gears 4, 5 or 6 on the highway. is this normal? its not too bad but..still can notice it. i don't know if im just paranoid and i just took notice to it as opposed to before i crashed my bike...in other gears u can't really hear it. sounds normal.

Maybe you layed it over hard enough to bump those gears slightly out of place causing the gear mesh to cause noise. I'm not sure but maybe there is some kind of lube for the gears? Hope it's nothing major.

Yeah; gears, maybesomething in the top end bent/loosened up? What kind of whine is it (upper "mechanical" or lower "metal to metal/gears?") Tell us more about the crash and repairs that were made. Left side, right side, total mess?

Or it could be as simple as readjusting the chain and alignment?

Thats possible but then the whining would stay while he was just cruising. Try and go into low rpm's in 4th gear and see if it does it, then try high rpms in 3rd to see if it does it.

i was takin a corner, went in too hot, lost control and fell off. the bike fell over on the right side and slid all the way into the tree line. it didnt hit anything hard. it just slid into some bushes. repairs were just cosmetics. right side fairings and some other minor things. i can't tell where the sound is coming from exactly but..it only whines in gears 4-6 on the high way...regardless if i give it throttle or not. i took it yesterday to a shop that a buddy knows of and the guy said he didnt sense anything wrong with the bike....i might have to take it somewhere else then..yet i dont want to give them 50 bux just to tell me nothing is wrong again...

Have you checked the ignition cover for any contact with the advancer? Maybe the impact bent the cover into the advancer? Clutch coverokay?
It's the "gears 4-6" which puzzles me. Could the impact have loosened a shifting fork or something weird in the bottom end? What gear were you in when you crashed?
I wondered about the timing chain, but that doesn't explain the gear thing.
I'm stumped!

My bike has a "Gear Drive" like sounding whine (Zingy) but it's normal. Almost sound lake a jet. I thinkafter most people crash, they start listening to their bikes more closely to listen for something wrong and you may think that you hear new sounds & noises that were already there. Does it do at at idle too? If it's running normal, don't worry about it. If you're still worried, check the oil for metal dust/ powder. Change the oil just to be safe.
