if they are wanting a sport bike then either a 250 or 500 will be just fine for them, if they are looking for cruisers then they might look at a Rebel, Eliminator, or simething like a Vulcan or Nighthawk.

Boy, iIsure wish I could say I was 5'4" or anything above what I am, which is just a bit over 5'0". Anyway, I think also that the 250/500 are great starter bikes,. I now wonder if someone like me (vertically challenged) may not have benefited from a 250. I am still not flat footed on my bike, but I can holde er down. Unfortunately, height is a pretty big limiting factor when looking for the right bike. I also suggest going into the different dealerships and sitting on them. Get a feel for how the seat fits and how you fit on the seat while reaching for the handle bars. Makes a difference if you aren't used to being bent over (unless you are) Good luck to your friends in their search. Have them stay in the 250 to 500 range and they should be just fine.
