Water pump question ('99 ZX6R)

Had a leak in the water pump, replaced seal on the cover, now it seems it is leaking into the oil?
Mechanical seal? Oil pump seal?
Anyone encounter this problem? Any tips, facts, opinions would be greatly appreciated..

according to my factory service manual for the 95 zx6r the seal between the water pump body and shaft is the only thing betweent he coolant and oil.
