Default Starter Problems

Alright so I just bought an 87 ZX600 and there a few related problems I am currently having. When I try turning it over the starer does not engage the motor all the time. I can hear it working but it is not attaching to the flywheel. I checked the flywheel over and there no teeth missing on it. It does seem to engage after I put it into gear and rock it a few times which is why

i thought it was the flywheel at first. It is also a new starter so you wouldnt think that would be the problem. The weird thing is when it is actually turning the motor over the head light turns on? It doesnt work after the starter starts slipping again. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks

My manual mentions that the starter motor clutch is bad or not working properly. There could be an alignment issue with the new starter?

How would you check for the alignment? Ill pull her out again and let you know. But that still wouldnt make sense for the headlight deal.

In the manual, the headlight circuit and the starting circuit are in the Junction box which is none repairable. You can check out the leads to and from the J-box with your meter to verify. Could be that the J-Box is taking a dump which may explain your headlight question.

Turns out my Battery had a dead cell and wasnt putting enough juice to the junction box. Put a new Battery in and the lights work like a charm now. Still need to investigate the starter a bit more though
