Remving headlights on 06 ZX6R?!
 

Quick question, is it really difficult to remove and later installthe headlights from a 2006 ZX6R? I am going to start track days and about to pay for a basic race bike prep which includes installing the fairings, brake lines, steering damper, rear sets, brake pads, safety wiring,etc.... I want to still ride on the streets so I figure if I learn to put on and take off the headlights I will save money because the safety wiring will be already done, can anyone give me some insight please? Thanks...

You have to remove your upper fairing to remove the headlight. As far as on the track; Go Slow to Go Fast. Meaning, go slow at first and work on your lines and being smooth. You will automatically start going faster. Also FOCUS on where you want to go; Focus on your lines because the bike will go where you look. If you get spooked or are pushing hard and you look off the track thinking that's where you don't want to crash; That is exactly where the bike will go and you will CRASH. Some track set out cones in the apexes but if not then you need to pick out your own braking and apexmarkers. Get a copy of "Twist of the Wrist" by Keith Code and read it cover to cover couple of times. Re-read it again after every track outing or even when you have time at the track.

Thanks speed... Once I remove the upper fairing is there alot of steps after that? Or better yet can u lead me to a site or spmething that I can learn how to do this please? Thanks, anything will help...

Once the fairing is off it's pretty self explanatory. Remove the inner fairings, 3 fairingscrews on each side, unplug the headlight connector &your RHTurn signal,mirrors, and it should come off. Check the inner lower fairings; they may need to come off too. On an 03-04 the lower inner fairing panels are part of the Upper. There are 6 screws that hold the headlight to the fairing.

Thanks for the info. speed, hopefully I'll get used to taking off and putting on the headlights so I can keep the bike for both track and street use....

yeah it's a great idea to just buy a cheap race body and install it.... cause if you go down then you just get it repaired and just slap that street body back on it.... best purchase for track days by far.... considering you have all your safety gear already...
