Default Redlined Hard

So, cruising into work today, I accelerated from a stop at a red light really hard (fun to do from time to time as you know). Unfortunately, I got a little too giddy with the shift into second gear, and didn't pull the shifter all the way up. So instead of going into second, it went into neutral. Not realizing it yet, I twisted the throttle wide open expecting to blast away into the distance, and instead blasted away way into the redline (~16,200 rpm), then the rev limited caught it and bouced around 15.5krpm for a second until I let off the throttle. Happily, it appears there is no immediate damage to the engine, though I fear I've probably grinded quite a bit of my crank bearings away. Definately going to remember to pull hard on that shift lever when riding hard from now on, lol.

I wouldn't worry about any engine damage. The rev limiter makes sure you can't over rev to the point damage occurs. Most bikes can handle a regular high revving from time to time.

Yeah, same thing around here. Tuesday nights are bike night and thursdays are street racer night. I take my bike to both just to hang out, but there are always other riders there nailing their redline all night. We'll see who's laughing when they get their **** towed home.

If you did any damage to the engine, you would definitely know right away. It would be knocking if the crank bearings were damaged. That is why the rev limiter is there; to prevent catastrophic engine damage, but don't go doing that all the time.

I agree, the stock limiter set points are there way before you will or should notice engine issues. However, does not mean that you should bounce the limiter every time. You should be fine.

If I had done that euro ECU jumper mod, I wonder if I would've blown my engine Without the rev limiter, I'm sure I would've done a considerable amount of damage.

The ECU mod does not disable your rev limiter; just gives more power due to the flow and the affect on the Exhaust valve and fuel map at the top end.
