Premium fuel = better mileage???

I ran regular fuel in my 95 Ninja zx-6r for the first few tanks of fuel witha fuel additive (lucas).

Recently since fuel costs have slumped a little I have been putting premium fuel (93 octaine) in my bike. My fuel economy went from 37mpg per 133 miles to 42mpg per 133 miles... Just by switching to the premium fuel.

That is a 5mpg difference. WOW!

What's that tell you about the Lucas fuel additive  calculate the cost of the 87 gas and the cost of the lucas, could you have been using the 93 all the time?

They do at the dealer, race gas comes in five gallon cans for about 48.00 last time I saw one.

yea we have 93 at all the pumps and i'd say prolly 10 gas stations have 110 around here in the greater charleston area. its pretty much always accessible. and if not, 93 is not to bad for bikes either.

Here's my 2 cents...

Our engines have high compression ratios and when you run higher octane gas in a high compression engine it works better. Premium gas is only supposed to be run in high compression engines or turbos. I get a kick outa retards that put 93 octane in there ford f-150 what a waste of money it does nothingextra for there engines essentially.

With high compression engines and high octane gas the gas burns better, keeps your engine cleaner because, andless carbon build up on the valves and pistons. You burna better percentageof premium gasand thats why you getbetter MPG and better power.

I used to race my AWD turbo DSM (talon and eclipse) so I know a little bit about the premium vs regular gas. And it doesn't help that my dad used to work at a dnyo shop and is a master mechanic that works on race cars and high end cars lol.
