Oil Level

I have a 2005 ZX6r

This may seem like a stupid question, but when the bike is in riding position, how far up should the oil level be on the spy glass?

I understand that too much oil is just as bad for it as too little oil so I want to make sure there is the correct amount. It say something like 3.6 quarts with the filter being changed as well but that puts my oil level just barely on the spy glass.

Thanks for the help.

see page 2-55 in your factory manual.

3.6 without a filter change
3.8 with a filter change
4.2 when the engine is completely dry

As with any ride, the machine has to be perpendicular to the ground (not on the side stand), and the oil level should be half way up the sight glass. It is also a good idea to inspect the sight glass along with your other cable, brake and preliminary checks prior to riding. Enjoy the ride time.

Okay thanks for the help!

The reason I asked about oil level is I was told to keep a little more oil in the bike when riding long wheelies so you don't starve the oil pump therefore I wanted to know exactly where it should be on the glass so I can have just a little extra in the bike.

I remember something about the 636 being bad for wheelies because of the oil pump position, but its been awhile since I was slummin with the stunnas so I do not recall. good luck with it and ride safe.

A stunter? do a search in here. I think that repositioning the pickup tube was needed. I can carry a wheelie like I can carry a tune. (not very far) good luck on the search.

Thanks for the help! I figured it out and I'm not too big on wheelies either..much rather the curves but when I see a long straight away..sometimes that itch kicks in...thanks again.

Ive seen this writen in a few places and on Utube videos. I have an 05 but my sight glass is completely unmarked. What happened to a red dot in the centre of the sight. I know over filling will cause the engine to over pressurise and blow seals and damage other components. My brother in law learnt the hard way years ago with his 4x4, and blew out the rear main seal and left us stuck half way up Mt Tambourine on the road not offtrack.

but yeah if there no markings am I correct in thinking to fill to up so the oil is a hair over half way but always make sure there is a air bubble at the top. Im no mechanic and just asking for reassurance after almost running it dangerously low after riding a bit to hard for a week straight 🙄
