Default new zx6r owner, rider with some honest questions

about a month ago, i bought a brand new 2007 zx6r, didnt have a mile on it. jet black with silver stickers on it. truly the prettiest bike i have ever laid my eyes on. i chose this over the r6 from yahama and am so glad that i did.

that being said.

i have some earnest questions... i bought my first bike on sept. 11; a Ninja 250R. loved that bike and was glad that i learned to ride on it. i rode it for 2,836.6 miles and traded it in on the new zx6r i now have. i have 124 miles on my zx6r and havent had it above 4-6000 rpms for making sure i break-it in properly, to the best of my ability.

what follows might seem naive or stupid to seasoned riders so please keep that in mind.

i have never ridden a bike with as much power as this bike has, or so i have heard. i have never had this bike ANYWHERE NEAR its potential because of the break in period. i have seen youtube videos of fools riding the zx6r and the front wheel comes up when they accelerate hard like in 2nd or 3rd gear, i think. does this bike have that much power? i was hoping i wouldnt have something that was just going to be uncontrollable. i dont wanna lay into the throttle in 2nd or 3rd and have the front end flip me off the bike.... is this motorcycle THAT powerful?? forgive me if that sounds stupid, but will my bike do this, once i have it broken in properly?

Yes and No.

The ZX-6R is very powerful, 108 rwhp (636) compared to older 900cc bikes that were only making 95-100 rwhp, your 599cc 6R might have less than 108hp. The only time my 6R will power wheelie (that is bring up the front wheel with just hard acceleration) is when in first gear and usually around 12-12.5k rpms. Personally, I feel that the new 6R's like yours that went back to a 599cc engine as opposed to my 636cc will not have this problem as they lack the mid-range puch that extra 37cc's added.

Most of the guys in those videos are either clutching it, or letting off the throttle and snapping it so the wheel comes up. Also, if they changed the sprockets at all to lower the gearing it will come up easier too.

Don't worry about the power being uncontrollable, it is so linear you can barely feel yourself accelerating. Now where's the damn pics...?

the 600's are pretty safe in that regard. its the added torque of the larger displacements where that is mroe of an issue.

just don't hit the throttle too hard in a corner or it will break loose and come out from under you. mine surprised me the other day i was riding withmy old lady on the back came out of a corner in second gear around 8000 rpm cracked the throttle and the front came right up. was not expecting that at all. it has a lotmore power compared to the 250, but treat it with respect and you'll be fine.

first of all, my bike has MORE hp than 108. the manual says 122hp.

secondly, what does "clutching" it mean?

"Clutching" it usually means, your playing with the clutch, at the same time your giving it more gas, thenyou would in a normal situation.

and 05zx6r was talking about (rwhp=rear wheel horse power. what it says your bike has and what it's putting down on the rear wheel is different.

The 122 HP is taken at the crankshaft. 108 RWHP is approximately what it's actually producing. We dynoed a stock 07 ZX6R with a full Leo Vince at 110. With the ECU jumper mod, it can produce 120 RWHP!
