I had changed out my spark plugs on my bike, when I was putting the tank back on the connector for the fuel pump sparked and melted the ground wire. It melted the wire up to a terminal that connects all the grounds into one and then goes to the fuse box. No fuse was blown. No other wires melted. I replaced the wire and the connector. After everything was togethor O turned the bike to run, it went through its startup sequence and about three seconds after it was done the gauge startrd flashing fuel and the fuel light didnt just come on like it would if you were low it just flashes. The tank is over half full. When you push to start it, the starter motor turns, but nothing. Does anyone have some advice on what could be the problem? The tank was sitting at a forward angle off the bike for quite some time because I was away. I havent been able to locate anything in my service manual about a flashing fuel light. Any answers or advice would be appreciated.

maybe you blew your fuel pump and sending unit?

Can you hear the fule pump come on when you turn on your key? Maybe the short fried the fuel level sensor?

ie., too much amp draw. So something is amiss.

Look at a wiring diagram and note which connector and wires shorted. I don't understand what could have shorted out and melted the wires that bad.

I also wasnt sure what would have caused it to melt like that. I didnt disconnect the battery cable but still. The wire that melted was the ground wire (black/yellow) for the fuel pump and reserve switch. The only part of it that melted was from the connector that you would disconnect to take your tank off directly under the seat on the right side across to a terminal on the left side that connects all the grounds into one and then makes it way up to the fuse box. The terminal s for the connector were welded togethor from it and and broke off as soon as I disconnected it. The insulation for the wire was almost completely melted to were the grounds are connected and it stops right as it went into the connector without harming the connector itself or the other wires.

Might have to replace all the damaged wires. Something got shorted and maybe still shorted causeing your FI light to blink. After you replace the wires, check all your fuses too.

I have checked all my fuses and they are all fine. The FI light is not blinking, its the orange fuel light that is blinking. It also blinks "FUEL" on the gauge. Kind of like when your become low on fuel, but when you are low the orange light would just come on not blink.

hmm, with the history so far, I would be ohmn'g out wires to see if the melting or contact might have happened somewhere else in the harness. Your issue seems bizarre at the moment.
