MY 135 MPH rear tire blowout!!
Im a car tech, not a teacher or anyone that has to do any writing, well all have strenghths and weakness! i deal with it, rather beable to fix anything and not spell or write worth a darn! then spell good and has to have jiffy lube do my oilchanges! matter of personal preffrance!
7K is damn good for a rear on a 636. Probably 5-6K are more like it but you got down to the steel belt which is not advisable and that's why it BLEW. You are lucky that you didn't get hurt or caused damage to your bike. The Stock BT014's are an excellent tire and unless you're doing trackdays or ride harder than you should be on the street, you should stick with them. Unless ofcourse you can afford replacing them more often with softer trackday tires like the Power Race or Dunlop 208GP/ Qualifiers.
Well glad you made it through the blow out, you should have at least learned not to ride with worn tires every again. The only thing that rear was good for at that point was a long burnout till she tore herself off the bike video.
As far as tires 7 k is not bad for a tire that sees a moderate amount of wheelies. If you are not out to ride canyons and track I would stick with the Bridgestone or The Dunlop 208, the 208 may have been replaced by the 218 but I am not sure, I have gotten the best mileage out of those tires on the daily commute. Stay away from the Pilot Powers and Qualifiers due to there softer compound will wear very fast, probably last you about 3500-4500 with either of them.
Pilot race and Power race should be used on the track and not really the street. Softer compound and they are prone to problems with to many heating up and cooling down cycles that you get from street ridding.
Well that’s my 2 cents, watch that rear for wear and ride safe.
