Intro new member and 2006 ZX6-R ECU chaos
Hi all,
I purchased a new 2006 ZX6-R two months ago. Ran it in strictly as per owners manual and had the first service done.
Just over 2000 km the chaos started. The bike's FI light went on and stayed on and didn't want to go over 90km/h.
After being at the shop for a week it was discovered that the ECU had blown. Another week passed by for the warranty claim to be approved and the new ECU was fitted. According to the shop the new ECU was also faulty. A second ECU has to be ordered from Japan and this will take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive.
Spoke to Kawasaki SA and asked for a new bike or some compensation for the inconvenience. I was rudely told that I was unreasonable and these things happen
So much for customer service :icon_frow
I would like to know if anyone on the forum with a 2006 ZX6-R has experienced any ECU problems?

I've had no issues with mine, but if your bike is down for over 30 days you may be (depending on your state) elegible for a full refund or a replacement bike. Write a letter to KAW customer service (cc. your dealer) stating the date the bike was taken in. They know what you are thinking the minute they get it and will expedite the shipment of the new ECU.
Cheers.
Cheers.

They can get an ECU from another dealer or a used one on ebay cheap just to get you on the road. You may want to buy one on ebay and get the New replacement when yours shows up then sell the spare.

I wrote to the Kawasaki's president and he repplied and sent it to the right department last week friday.
The whole week I have been given different excuses by the workshop. The new ECU arrived on monday, down from 3 to 4 weeks to 4 days They have been struggling with the new ECU the whole week to get the key coded and the bike started. Yesterday it started but the exhaust valve and some other components wer not working.
I phoned the dealer today and he told me the following: "The email you sent had the desired effect, the whole technical team of Kawasaki SA is in my workshop to sort your bike out. We have another ZX6 ready for you to use should they not get your bike sorted out toady." Now that is more like it
Got a call 5 minutes ago, my bike is ready for collection. [sm=happybounce.gif]
Someone got [sm=chairshot.gif] at Kawasaki SA, hopefully their customer service levels will improve after this incident for the benefit of the fellow kawa owners

Yep, got the bike back friday afternoon
One thing is for sure, the old ECU was not right from the start. The new ECU brought my bike back to life. It pulls way better from top to bottom.
On the way home the orange light in the top left corner went on. Started swearing, read the manual when I got home and it's supposed to go on, shift light. I read that I can adjust it or disable it. [8D]
Just very happy to have my bike back, the cage hasn't moved since friday
