having problem with my bike 2nd gear

i have a 96 ninja zx6E model this is the only place i could find for a bike close to mine but either way heres my problem
ok when i shift into 2nd gear if i dont give it gas holds in for ever
but if i hit the throttle it pops out
if i babys it in 2nd it will stay in for a few
but in downshifting no problems either stay in perfect
i have heard about a 2nd gear shift fork that goes bad in these bikes
if that is the case how hard is it to fix and if not wat could it be and how hard is it to fix
thanks josh
ps if its easier some one can get ahold of me on yahoo and help me with this

RE: having problem with my bike 2nd gear

How many miles are you looking at on the transmission? If it's that old, I would suggest changing the clutch oil. Just as a note, never use synthetic oils inside the clutch system. If your transmission oil is also your engine oil (which is the case on most bikes), then try changing the oil with a slightly heavier weight. See if those two things help you out a bit. Anyone else have any ideas?

15800 miles about
oil changes at 1500-2000 miles 10w40 weight
not synthetic
it is the same oil for the clutch as it is for the motor
it is a wet clutch system

RE: having problem with my bike 2nd gear

It's probably the shift forks of the shift drum. could be bad dogs on second gear itself.

It is a pain in the ass to replace these parts cuz I think you need to split the cases on that model.

GOOD LUCK!
