Chain Removal without breaker?
 

Anyone know how to remove the chain from an 06 636 without using a chain breaker? I'm really not in the mood to buy yet another tool, and I don't have the money for it, but my chain is look'n nasty and needs some cleaning.

remove the master link and take it off. you know, the chain link that has a open end looking clip on it ??

yup evils right you wouldnt want to use a chain breaker anyway from what i understand they do just that "break" the chain you would only want to use one if you were replacing your chain. also i may be wrong. depending you your chain you will either have a clip type master link or a rivet type master link it will stand out form the rest of the normal links on your chain.

I've always used a grinder, it will save you lots of time and headache. I used the chain breaker once and it broke on me, ever since I've always used a grinder.

The stock chain doesn't have a masterlink. You will have to grind the 2 pins flush with the plate and drive them out with a punch or chain breaker. If you just want to clean it, get a tooth brush, some chain cleaner or simple green, put the bike on a rear stand and get busy. Thats what I do. Brush it like you brush your teeth, then hose it off and spray it with WD40 to remove the water and prevent flash rusting. Dry it with a rag or paper towels and lube it with some good chain lube. I use Motul Cleaner and Lube.

Yeah, I'll probably do speed's idea then. I don't want to break the chain just to clean it and all. I'll just clean it while it's on the bike. Thanks for the info guys.

That stuff is some good sheeeeat, hard as hell to get off your swingarm too. I won't ever goof up with that stuff again.
